Arts Ed NJ |VPA Supervisor Roundtable| Arts Ed NJ is excited to kick off the VPA Supervisor Roundtable by welcoming Dr. Scott Edgar, Director of Practice and Research at the Center for Arts Education and Social Emotional Learning, to join us for an important discussion about Artistic SEL. First, we will discuss how SEL practices are impacting your district/school/arts classrooms. Then Dr. Edgar will guide participants through strategies to build arts educators’ and administrators’ own social emotional learning (SEL) competencies as they work to support teachers in embedding the SEL goals of Identity, Belonging, and Agency into teaching and learning through the four artistic processes. This will also be an opportunity to learn more about the Center for Arts Education and Social Emotional Learning) and the resources available to support Artistic SEL professional learning. New Jersey State Council on the Arts | The Business of Being an Artist Virtual Workshop Series | The New Jersey State Council on the Arts is pleased to share Part One of The Business of Being an Artist Virtual Workshop Series, “Every Artist Insured: Understanding Your Options in New Jersey.” The artist workshop series is free and open to any artist, teaching artist, or folk artist who lives and/or works in New Jersey. When: October 31, 2023 | 12:00 – 1:30 PM What: Feeling at a loss when looking for affordable health insurance? Have no idea how to identify a quality plan? "Every Artist Insured” will give you clear, step-by-step guidance on what all your insurance options are and how to get the most affordable coverage to fit your needs. You’ll learn about Affordable Care Act plans, Medicaid, COBRA, and how to get discounted care if you’re uninsured. Find out how to estimate variable/sporadic income and see if you’re eligible for free insurance or expanded subsidies to reduce your premiums. This is an excellent opportunity for unbiased, comprehensive information from an experienced health insurance navigator.

Atlantic City Arts Foundation | ARTeriors at The James | Call for Artists | Apply to create an installation for our 10th ARTeriors at The James - the former home of James Candy Company! For our first ARTeriors on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, we’re inviting 15 artists to work their magic on this iconic space

All Street Gallery | Call for Artists Virtual Exhibition | Each month, a new virtual solo exhibition will be featured on the gallery’s website. Artists of all mediums are welcome to apply; however, we strongly encourage new media works created with the intention to be displayed online. We encourage browser-based projects, experiences, and artistic games. Browser-based projects will be displayed in the online viewing room with featured images/gifs, and the external page(s) will be linked. To apply, we request a concise exhibition proposal with high quality images/videos/gifs of all works to be featured. In addition to the proposal, please send a short biography, artist statement and links to your relevant websites and/or social media. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The application form will remain open indefinitely.

Circ Artist Grant | The Circ Artist Grants are open to emerging, mid-career, and professional artists in an international open call, several times throughout the year. The Circ Artist Grant provides unrestricted funding to artists with a demonstrated commitment to their art. For the Fall 2023 cycle, three artists will be awarded $1000 each to enhance and further their creative practice.

UPWARD Gallery | Call for Artists | We are excited to introduce the Sky juried art exhibition and competition. All artists 18 and older are encouraged to submit their work in any medium, style, and genre. Acceptable mediums include all traditional art media (e.g., oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratch board, markers, metal point), digital painting, arts and crafts (beadwork, pottery, embroidery, floristry, batik, stained glass, two-dimensional collage and fabric art as well, etc.). No profanity or political artwork. Each participant of the competition receives his personal page on the UPWARD gallery. This page displays works that the artist submitted for participation in competitions, short biography text and artist statement, links to the artist's website, as well as links to social media accounts, interview with the artist.

Cherry Street Pier | Call for Artists in Residence | Cherry Street Pier is accepting artist applications for the studios on the Pier. Individuals or small collectives/non-profits interested in licensing space in one of the studios can complete the application and submit it to DRWC for review. Each year, Cherry Street Pier welcomes a new cohort of artists, artist collectives, and nonprofits to be part of our artist-in-residence program, which seeks to foster a unique space for emerging and established artists to collaborate, create, and show off their work. Located in a large public space, the studios allow visitors to Cherry Street Pier to get a glimpse into the world of art-making.

Hamilton Street Gallery | Call for Artists: Stardust Exhibition | One of my favorite places to go is the Adirondack Mountains. At over 5,000 feet up, the pine scented air is noticeably cleaner, and with less light pollution, much clearer to view the beautiful scenery. As night falls, millions of stars light up the sky. Some twinkle brilliant white, while others, depending on their temperature, radiate blue, red, orange or yellow. Late summer brings on a burst of celestial activity with meteor showers, disguised as shooting stars. Fascinated, time passes, pinpointing planets and con- stellations with mythical names and stories like Cassiopeia, forever embodied in a chair. Pointing due North, is Polaris or North Star, a bright yellow super giant that, for centuries, has been a constant beacon guiding explorers and travelers of all kinds to their destinations. Just as it was a reliable resource for escaped slaves finding a safe route north through the Underground Railroad, it is viable today for those lost or seeking asylum. | Stardust is a juried theme exhibition open to a variety of interpretations. All media is eligible for acceptance.

The Projects Serving Artists (PSA) grant program provides support to help eligible organizations cover costs for technical support or services to artists who reside in New Jersey or whose work benefits New Jersey residents. The project must demonstrate direct benefit to New Jersey artists.

Applicants may request up to $25,000 in support of the project’s direct expenses. Grant funds must be matched 1:1 ($1 earned or raised and spent per $1 received from the Arts Council). The match cannot be fulfilled, in any part, through New Jersey Department of State grant awards.

Applicants may propose a new or significantly renewed project. Examples of eligible projects include, but are not limited to: specialized space for creating, practicing, or producing work; assistance or training in areas of marketing, legal issues, accounting, insurance, and technology; and/or artist career development skills. Examples of eligible renewed projects are those that have evidence of success in serving the artist community and are being re-envisioned in a significant way. The Arts Council will prioritize projects that are free or accessible to artists for a reduced fee.

This grant program does not support the replacement of funds for an existing project, nor does it support the commissioning of new work, networking opportunities, or projects that support, engage, or further compensate the artistic leadership of an organization. Applicants unclear about the eligibility of a project should contact the Program Officer in the appropriate panel category for support.

General Program Support (GPS) grants provide support for the arts-related costs of full-time, ongoing, public arts programs that meet the Arts Council’s eligibility criteria.GPS grants are typically awarded with a three-year commitment, subject to contract stipulations and available funds. This grant is to be matched 3:1 ($3 earned or raised and spent per $1 received from the Arts Council). Funding is contingent upon availability of funds and passage of the state budget for the grant cycle. Please note that grant requests are not a guarantee of award level amounts. This guidance is meant to provide a context for the applicant, panelists, and the Arts Council.
