Rowan University Art Gallery serves as a premier cultural destination for South Jersey, the Rowan community, and the surrounding region. We provide a platform for discourse on best practices in contemporary art by professional artists, curators, and scholars through the presentation of interdisciplinary art exhibitions, panel discussions, guest curatorial projects, and other public programming.

Located near Philadelphia, and an easy day trip from New York and Baltimore, Rowan University is the largest university in South Jersey serving over 19,000 students and over 3,000 staff and faculty. We are committed to cultivating an inclusive environment that encourages dialogue between exhibiting artists, students, faculty, the general public, and other cultural institutions. Our goal is to offer visitors an enriching cultural experience and function as a resource for contemporary art throughout the region.

Rowan University Art Gallery is comprised of two key locations. The primary Gallery at 301 High Street West highlights curated contemporary art exhibitions by professional artists along with accompanying educational programming. Conveniently located at the intersection of the University campus and the heart of Glassboro, this gallery is an active arts resource for students and the public. The Center for Art and Social Engagement, located in Westby Hall, serves as a venue for investigating social issues through arts-based methods. Anchored by a permanent display of The Sister Chapel, a historic collaborative feminist installation, the Center draws inspiration from the cooperative spirit of the women’s art movement. Programming at the Center encourages interdisciplinary collaborations that explore diverse and timely social issues through multidisciplinary practices.

Programming is developed in collaboration with other academic areas including engineering, sociology, anthropology, history, education, environmental studies, social justice, performing arts, and women’s gender studies programs. Programming has included many group and solo exhibitions by internationally recognized artists such as Mel Chin, Willie Cole, Jeanne Jaffe, Joyce Kozloff, Tom Nussbaum, Beverly Semmes, Dread Scott, Jackie Tileston, Diane Burko, Ebony Patterson, and other notable artists.

We present 4-5 interdisciplinary art exhibitions each year with accompanying educational programming including artist talks, panel discussions, and workshops.

Rowan University Art Gallery has been the recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Citation of Excellence. In 2015, Rowan University Art Gallery received a National Endowment for the Arts, Artworks grant, the first-ever for the university.
