MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

Paula Farrar is a fine artist specializing in oils and acrylics with over 30 years of artistic experience.  She has worked in an array of mediums from painting to pottery and from Art supply sales to curating at an Art gallery.  In addition to her studies in Advertising and the Fine and Applied Arts at The Art Institute of Philadelphia and Glassboro State College in New Jersey, she has a background in business.  When she is not painting or designing in her studio, she is teaching and advocating the importance of Arts education.  Paula has, also, been involved in live theater productions designing and painting sets since 2004.

Whether painting in oil, acrylic or any other medium, my style changes very little.  My style is more on the academic side not unlike the masters, Michaelangelo and Davinci, but with a softening of my edges.  And, the subjects of my work usually include human and animal forms.  I do not believe that this has ever real been a conscientious decision on my part to choose to capture the live figures.  It has been more of a revelation, in fact.  Regardless the subject, it is my hope that the viewer will take from my work a feeling of calmness, empathy or a fond memory.

I am a teaching visual artist from the Buena Vista Township area with over 30 years of artistic experience specializing in oil and acrylic painting.  I gravitate toward these two mediums for very different reasons.  I thoroughly enjoy the ease in which oil paints can be manipulated on the canvas allowing time to lay it exactly where it needs to be.  On the other hand, even though acrylic paints dry incredibly too quickly, they are extremely forgiving allowing me the luxury of working almost nonstop or making corrections. Recently, I have been working in watercolor and have found a new respect and fondness for the medium.
