The Projects Serving Artists (PSA) grant program provides support to help eligible organizations cover costs for technical support or services to artists who reside in New Jersey or whose work benefits New Jersey residents. The project must demonstrate direct benefit to New Jersey artists.

Applicants may request up to $25,000 in support of the project’s direct expenses. Grant funds must be matched 1:1 ($1 earned or raised and spent per $1 received from the Arts Council). The match cannot be fulfilled, in any part, through New Jersey Department of State grant awards.

Applicants may propose a new or significantly renewed project. Examples of eligible projects include, but are not limited to: specialized space for creating, practicing, or producing work; assistance or training in areas of marketing, legal issues, accounting, insurance, and technology; and/or artist career development skills. Examples of eligible renewed projects are those that have evidence of success in serving the artist community and are being re-envisioned in a significant way. The Arts Council will prioritize projects that are free or accessible to artists for a reduced fee.

This grant program does not support the replacement of funds for an existing project, nor does it support the commissioning of new work, networking opportunities, or projects that support, engage, or further compensate the artistic leadership of an organization. Applicants unclear about the eligibility of a project should contact the Program Officer in the appropriate panel category for support.

General Program Support (GPS) grants provide support for the arts-related costs of full-time, ongoing, public arts programs that meet the Arts Council’s eligibility criteria.GPS grants are typically awarded with a three-year commitment, subject to contract stipulations and available funds. This grant is to be matched 3:1 ($3 earned or raised and spent per $1 received from the Arts Council). Funding is contingent upon availability of funds and passage of the state budget for the grant cycle. Please note that grant requests are not a guarantee of award level amounts. This guidance is meant to provide a context for the applicant, panelists, and the Arts Council.

The New Jersey State Council on the Arts (Arts Council) is a division of the New Jersey Department of State, created in 1966 by Public Law Chapter 214 and consists of 17 Governor-appointed members and three ex-officio members representing the New Jersey Secretary of State, the Senate, and the Assembly. The Council’s volunteer members are supported by a professional staff who carry out the Council’s programs and services from the State Capital in Trenton. General Operating Support (GOS) grants provide annual support for the overall operations of organizations with missions exclusively devoted to the arts and which meet the Council’s eligibility criteria.

The Museum Grants for African American History and Culture (AAHC) program is designed to build the capacity of African American museums and support the growth and development of museum professionals at African American museums.

The AAHC program supports projects that nurture museum professionals, build institutional capacity, and increase access to museum and archival collections at African American museums and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Grant Amount: $5,000–$500,000
Grant Period: One to three years
Cost Share Requirement: If your total request for federal funding is between $5,000 and $100,000, then no cost share is required. If your request for federal funding is between $100,001 and $500,000, you must provide funds from non-federal sources in an amount that is equal to or greater than the amount of your IMLS request.

Peters Valley is excited to act as an intermediary grantor for the New Jersey Arts and Culture Renewal Fund, managed by the Princeton Area Community Foundation, to support New Jersey craft artists and teaching artists. Individual grants of $1,000 - $2,000 will be awarded to NJ artists that demonstrate the need for resources to cover expenses related to increased cost of living/studio rental, traveling for teaching opportunities, purchasing artist materials or equipment to build inventory/their business, or to cover costs for participation (fees, shipping) for upcoming shows and sales opportunities. As Peters Valley's mission is focused on craft, preference will be given to artists working in craft media.

The Prize is open to artists residing anywhere in the world with limited exceptions, and the deadline to register is 5:00 pm PT, September 26, 2023. To be considered, artists must maintain a published profile on the Foundwork website, with at least 6 artworks and an artist statement published on their profile page, throughout the selection period: 5:00 pm PT, September 26– 5:00 pm PT, December 31, 2023. Foundwork membership costs $4 per month and can be canceled at any time. Artists should see the FAQ and Prize Rules posted on the Foundwork website for instructions, terms and conditions. Eligible artists must be South Jersey residents who are 18+ years or older and live in the eight-county South Jersey region comprised of Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean, Salem Counties.

The grant will be administered and distributed by South Jersey Cultural Alliance, in collaboration with local cultural professionals, leaders, and creatives; some who serve on committees and Board, and some external partners and experts from the field.

SJCA prioritizes grant awards for individuals from historically excluded and oppressed communities, specifically those who self-identify as Black, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, Indigenous, or a Person of Color, LGBTQ+, or a Person with a Disability.

A diverse range of disciplines are eligible. Applicants that have not received the grant from us last year are prioritized over applications of previous awardees. Eligibility requirements include but are not limited to; working artists or cultural professionals who have a marketable presence as an artist or culture professional.

Eligible mediums/disciplines:

• Craft (ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, metals, textiles, etc.)

• Dance (dancers, choreographers; aerial, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, tap, etc.)

• Design (fashion, graphic, industrial, object, all forms of architecture, etc.)

• Film (animation, documentary, episodic, experimental, narrative, etc.)

• Media (work at the intersection of technology, aesthetics, storytelling,

digital cultures, etc.) • Music (composers, musicians; classical,

contemporary, experimental, folk, instrumental, jazz, pop, world, etc.)

• Theater & Performance (directing, experimental, live-action, playwriting,

puppetry, tactical and site performance, etc.)

• Traditional Arts (work related to the continuity and evolution of a tradition

or cultural heritage such as cultural dance, cultural music, oral expression,

traditional crafts, etc.)

• Visual Art (installation, painting, performance art, photography, sculpture,

sound art, video, etc.)

• Writing (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, literature for children, criticism, graphic

novels, journalism, arts writing, etc.)

Innovate Grants | Grants for Artists and Photographers | Innovate Grant supports artists and photographers through quarterly $1,800.00 grants. We believe that new ideas come from sparks of inspiration and aim to provide just that, access to mighty bursts of financial support so that you can focus on making your important and innovative work.

MacDowell Fellowship | About 300 artists in seven disciplines are awarded Fellowships each year and the sole criterion for acceptance is artistic excellence. There are no residency fees, and need-based stipends and travel reimbursement grants are available to open the residency to the broadest possible community of artists. MacDowell encourages applications from artists of all backgrounds and all countries in the following disciplines: architecture, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre, and visual arts. Any applicant whose proposed project does not fall clearly within one of these artistic disciplines should contact the admissions department for guidance.
