The Atlantic City Walking Tour Series allows participants to actively experience the historical landmarks, events, and sub-cultures of Atlantic City and the surrounding “Downbeach” communities which have supported our local area for over 150+ years. Our 2024 calendar will combine tours across various neighborhoods and niche sub-cultures on Absecon Island, Ocean City, and Somers Point. All tours are researched, designed, and led by our resident public historian, Dr. Levi Fox, current assistant professor of History at Immaculata University, and former adjunct of Arts and Humanities at Stockton University. Bring your walking shoes and water bottle, as each tour will cover between 2 to 3 miles of parks, city streets, boardwalks, and beaches. Individual tour descriptions will provide starting, ending, and parking locations; as well as key points of interest along the tour route. | October 26th, 2024 Tour Description: This tour will feature many prominent casino and entertainment establishments in Atlantic City from past to present, primarily in the Midtown Section of the city. Participants will learn about notable people, places, and events which left a mark on the city's landscape. Join us and learn more about the famous, infamous, notable and notorious "History of Gaming" in Atlantic City. Join the Mid-Atlantic Arts Education Managers for the free, professional learning webinar, Teaching Artist Talks: Arts in Corrections, to learn how artists have engaged with those impacted in correctional facilities. When?: November 18, 2024 | 3:00 - 4:30 PM EST What?: This 90-minute webinar will feature a keynote by Daizha Brown, Policy Analyst with the Arts Education Partnership (AEP), who will discuss their recent findings from Creative Pathways: Arts Education in Juvenile Justice Systems. Following the keynote, there will be a panel discussion by teaching artists and experts who will share their insights and experience working in youth and adult correctional settings. This webinar is open to all who are interested in learning more about the experience of teaching artists working in the justice system. ASL interpretation and auto-captioning will be available. The Council will award New Jersey Heritage Fellowships to exemplary folk and traditional artists working to honor and preserve New Jersey’s diverse cultural heritage. These fellowships recognize artistic excellence, lifetime achievement, and contributions to our state’s traditional arts heritage. Heritage Fellowship awards are one-time, $20,000 awards to help folk and traditional artists pursue their artistic goals. The FY26 Guidelines and Application will be released on October 28, 2024.
