Field Trip New Jersey provides grants for trips to arts and cultural organizations, historical landmarks, nature preserves, science institutions and college tours — helping students in underserved communities to connect their classroom learning with real-life experiences. The fund prioritizes field trips in the state that gives students the opportunity to travel outside of their districts; it does not cover inter-school travel. Schools may transport students for college tours in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and New Jersey. They can also submit an application for multiple trips. However, total funding per school is capped at $1,400 and must be used for bus expenses only. Each field trip is capped at $700, and it is highly recommended that teachers collaborate during the planning and application process to help ensure the trips serve a range of teachers and students. | More information.

This presentation will use artifacts, photographs, and recorded stories to provide an overview of the oyster industry’s rise during its peak years and the decline due to overharvesting and disease. The public is invited to share their own memories of this booming trade and reflect on current efforts being made to revitalize the oyster industry through sustainable practices. This talk will highlight the enduring legacy of the oystermen and women who contributed to the cultural and economic shape of the region. On behalf of The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), the New Jersey State Council on the Arts is soliciting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from prospective artists to design, fabricate, and install artwork on Forcina/West quad on the TCNJ campus in Ewing, NJ. TCNJ is interested in a sculptural work(s) that is/are interactive or functional for use of the campus community in the quad between the Roscoe West Hall and Forcina Hall buildings. These could be several related pieces that could be a gathering place for groups of students, serve as seating, or in other ways encourage interaction and use of the space. The quad has some small hills and there is lawn and plantings planned after neighboring building construction is completed. Since several different education programs use the adjacent buildings (including technology, science, education and inclusion programs), the works should be inviting to all and non-specific to any one field of study. | Deadline: December 16th, 2024 | More information and application.

These virtual sessions serve as a platform for teaching artists to share their experiences, discuss new opportunities, and connect with each other and the State Arts Council.
