Arch Enemy Arts is in search of new artists for our annual group showcase exhibition scheduled to open in March 2025. A CALL TO ARTISTS is now open for a new group exhibition scheduled to hang for the month of March in 2025. This show is our annual spotlight exhibition of new and emerging talent, as chosen and curated by Arch Enemy Arts, with no themes or direction in subject matter allowing applicants to focus on their best personal work. Before submitting your work, understand that Arch Enemy Arts is a gallery dedicated to new contemporary genres with a strong focus on representational, dark surrealism, magical realism, post-graffiti, pop-surreal, illustrative, representational, and figurative work across a range of artistic mediums. On behalf of The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), the New Jersey State Council on the Arts is soliciting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from prospective artists to design, fabricate, and install artwork on Forcina/West quad on the TCNJ campus in Ewing, NJ. TCNJ is interested in a sculptural work(s) that is/are interactive or functional for use of the campus community in the quad between the Roscoe West Hall and Forcina Hall buildings. These could be several related pieces that could be a gathering place for groups of students, serve as seating, or in other ways encourage interaction and use of the space. The quad has some small hills and there is lawn and plantings planned after neighboring building construction is completed. Since several different education programs use the adjacent buildings (including technology, science, education and inclusion programs), the works should be inviting to all and non-specific to any one field of study. | Deadline: December 16th, 2024 | More information and application.

Cultural institutions, including libraries, archives, museums, and historical organizations, face a complex challenge: to preserve humanities collections for future generations through environmentally sustainable preventive care strategies to reduce energy consumption and costs as well as to strengthen institutional resiliency in the face of a changing climate. Cultural institutions can accomplish this work most effectively through managing collections’ environment, including aspects such as temperature, relative humidity, pollutants, and light; providing protective storage enclosures and systems for collections; and safeguarding collections from theft, fire, floods, and other disasters. By using environmentally sustainable methods, institutions reduce reliance on fossil fuels and ensure collections are better protected from current and future disasters. | Deadline: January 10, 2025 | More information and application.

The National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Library of Congress (LC) to create a national digital resource of historically significant newspapers published between 1690 and 1963, from all the states and U.S. jurisdictions. This searchable database will be permanently maintained at LC and will be freely accessible online (see the Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers website). The accompanying US Newspaper Directory of bibliographic and holdings information on the website directs users to newspaper titles available in all types of formats. During the course of its partnership with NEH, LC will also digitize and contribute to the NDNP database a significant number of newspaper pages drawn from its own collections. | Deadline: January 10, 2025 | More information and application.

Preservation Assistance Grants help small and mid-sized organizations preserve and manage humanities collections, ensuring their significance for a variety of users, including source communities, humanities researchers, students, and the public, by building their capacity to identify and address physical and intellectual preservation risks. These collections may include special collections of books and journals, archives and manuscripts, prints and photographs, moving images, sound recordings, architectural and cartographic records, decorative and fine art objects, textiles, archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, furniture, historical objects, and digital materials. | Deadline: January 9, 2025 | More information and application.

The Media Projects program supports the development, production, and distribution of radio programs, podcasts, documentary films, and documentary film series  that engage general audiences with humanities ideas in creative and appealing ways. Projects must be grounded in humanities scholarship and demonstrate an approach that is thoughtful, balanced, and analytical. The Public Humanities Projects program supports projects that bring the ideas of the humanities to life for general audiences through public programming. Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history. Awards support projects that are intended to reach broad and diverse public audiences in non-classroom settings in the United States. The Heritage Site Protection program seeks assistance in the protection and management of significant cultural resources on public lands. This initiative aims to foster co-stewardship between USDA Forest Service and historic preservation-focused partners to assist the agency in managing, preserving, and sharing history for public enjoyment and professional use. | Deadline: February 7, 2025 | More information.

The New Jersey Black Heritage Trail was signed into law by Governor Murphy on September 7, 2022. The legislation calls for the New Jersey Historical Commission (NJHC) to establish a Black Heritage Trail “to promote awareness and appreciation of Black history, heritage, and culture” that will “highlight Black heritage sites through historical markers and a trail-like path that connects the stories of Black life and resiliency.” Under this program, the Historical Commission will work in cooperation with other state agencies, such as the Historic Preservation Office, the Division of Travel and Tourism, as well as local governments, owners or operators of Black heritage sites, and others to identify a series of sites. The bill also names the New Jersey Black Cultural and Heritage Initiative Foundation as a principal collaborator, due to its mission which includes broadening, deepening, and diversifying statewide participation in and appreciation for Black arts, history, and culture. | More information available here.
