The Cultural Stewardship Succession Planning Initiative is a two-year project of CCAHA, in partnership with Lyrasis, created to actively address the need for leadership development and knowledge transfer in the cultural heritage workforce. Funded by a National Leadership Grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the initiative will gather data and build professional development resources to support succession planning for cultural stewardship staff and volunteers. As succession planning is a critical instrument in addressing a long-term shift at cultural heritage organizations toward greater diversity, equity, and inclusion, the suite of resources will promote strategies to keep these important concerns at the forefront during times of transition. As service providers to the country’s cultural heritage collecting institutions, CCAHA and Lyrasis have long recognized the need for succession planning, especially in smaller organizations with fewer resources. CCAHA and Lyrasis will utilize a series of small group listening sessions to learn about successful succession planning strategies and pathways that have proven more challenging for institutions in the project’s target group. | Upcoming events and previously recorded webinars can be found here.

exploring the history of politics and civics in New Jersey may address topics including, but not

limited to: • History of elections in New Jersey, Expansion and retraction of voting rights in New Jersey, History of media and its role in politics, History of activism and political protest , Local politics during times of crisis, The ways in which historians and historical organizations can contemporarily support the democratic process. The New Jersey State Council on the Arts (Arts Council) is seeking grant review panelists for three upcoming grant opportunities: The Creative Aging Initiative Grant is a two-year grant program that provides $10,000 a year to eligible arts organizations, libraries, veterans homes, senior and community centers, colleges/universities, and units of government to cover costs for arts learning experiences with New Jersey adults aged 55 and over. New Jersey Heritage Fellowships are awarded to master folk and traditional artists. These fellowships recognize lifetime achievement, artistic excellence, and contributions to our state's living traditional arts heritage. Heritage Fellowships are New Jersey’s highest honor in folk and traditional arts. The Local Arts Program supports the Arts Council’s partnerships with the twenty-one County Arts Agencies (CAAs) in providing the people of New Jersey access to quality arts experiences in every community. The Local Arts Program provides funding to the CAAs for the primary purpose of providing regrant funds for local, community-based arts organizations and projects that provide opportunities for local audiences and participants. | Deadline to Submit Interest Form: December 6th, 2024. | More information and interest form.

The New Jersey State Council on the Arts is pleased to share a multipart series of professional learning for artists called The Business of Being an Artist. This series of workshops is free and open to any artist, teaching artist, or folk artist who lives and/or works in the state of New Jersey. This fall, as we approach the national election, NJCH is relaunching their popular Democracy Conversation Project. NJCH seeks public spaces across the state such as libraries and community centers to host Storyboxes where members of the public can submit their responses to four questions about our democracy. They have a few boxes left and particularly seek sites in the northwest or southeast of the state. A Community of Practice (COP) is flexible gathering of individuals united by shared interests and expertise, providing peer-to-peer support, learning, and networking opportunities. COPs may be cultivated around a topic, geographic area, professional practice, or other common concern for humanities practitioners. In 2024, NJCH will pilot three COPs: Community college humanities, Oral history and story-gathering, Arts and humanities. If you see yourself in one of these communities, please join the COP! NJCH is currently looking for public speakers passionate about environmental topics viewed through the public humanities lens to provide scholarly presentations and facilitate conversations across New Jersey. Presentations typically take place in libraries, community and senior centers, historical societies, civic organizations, and environmental organizations. NJCH is looking for proposals that encourage participation and discussion and seek to bring people of different perspectives and backgrounds together. | Deadline to Apply: October 30th, 2024. | More information.

The Arts Council of Princeton’s Paul Robeson Center for the Arts serves as a key resource for contemporary art in central New Jersey. Through thought-provoking exhibitions and related public programs, the Arts Council presents artwork with a broad range of aesthetic, social, and cultural themes. The submission portal is open now for eligible slots for January through November of 2026.
