Cultural Education at Cape May Stage

Theatre performances at organization, Pre and Post Performance Workshops, Educational Outreach Programs, Artist-In-School Residencies, Internships and Classes. Grades 4-12 Cape May Stage’s mission is to create an aesthetic experience for the students using theatre as a tool to create greater depth in the learning process. CMS’s Educational Outreach Program believes the transformative power of live theatre awakens in students the silent creative potential waiting to erupt. Cape May Stage works with the classroom teacher to create a program tailored to his/her classroom and curriculum needs. CMS’s classics-based original works provide parallel curriculum (study guides, artist talk-backs, pre-performance discussions, and follow-up) to the local schools, as well as subsidized matinees. CMS artists regularly serve as mentors and guest artists at the local, middle and high schools. * Creative Dramatics for Young Learners * Pre and Post Student Matinee Show Workshops * Day and Week long Residencies for Elementary, Middle, and High School students * From Page to Stage, Director’s Choice, The Playwright’s Code * Internships for Middle and High School Students * The Acting Series: Saturday masterclasses starting in March for youth and adults covering Audition Techniques, Shakespeare, Musical Theatre, Playwriting and many more). Teacher Prep Materials are available and programming is core-curriculum-based.
The “Summer on Stage: YouthStyle” is a chance for youths ages 10-15 with interest in the arts to adapt, design, and perform a Shakespearean play from their point of view. The youth get to work with professional teaching artists from across the country over the course of two weeks will take classes focusing on the language of Shakespeare and Shakespeare performance, Acting covering classical to contemporary styles, and Scenic Design and construction. These classes influence the student adaptation and design of a selected Shakespearean play.
