Monument Lab | Open Call: Gray 30th Street Station | The William H. Gray III Memorial Foundation, in partnership with Amtrak and Monument Lab, is conducting an Open Call for Artist Ideas to envision and build a monumental “living memorial” to Congressman Gray’s legacy and values. The memorial will be situated within the great hall of Gray 30th Street Station, the historic train depot in Philadelphia that engages over 100,000 people each day. The memorial process is an opportunity to create a new, iconic landmark for the city and its main train station gateway. | Deadline: December 4th, 2024 | Application and information.
Absecon Cultural Arts Alliance | Still Life: Shape & Form: Gallery Library Exhibit | The ACAA is pleased to announce our next exhibit at the Galloway Library. The show's theme is "STILL LIFE: SHAPE & FORM" and will be open to the public. Artists are encouraged to create or bring in their pieces. The theme is broad so now is your chance to really let go and experiment. Drop off for the show will be held at the Galloway Library from 10:00am - 12:00pm on November 9 and is open to all 2-dimensional works. All work MUST be PROPERLY wired, framed, and ready to hang. Entry fees are $10 per piece for for up to 3 pieces. Online registration is available here at abseconarts.com. Work will be judged by an independent judge and announced on social media. South Jersey Artist Collective | Dr. Daisy Century Performs as Bessie Coleman | The first African-American woman to become a licensed airplane pilot and the first American to hold an international pilot license, Bessie Coleman was a woman who didn’t give up. ... Traveling north to Chicago to live with her brothers, she heard stories from pilots returning from World War I and decided to become a pilot. Dr. Daisy Century as Bessie Coleman is an exciting portrayal of a beautiful, determined woman who knew what she wanted and made it happen... She showcases a life that broke the mold, inspiring her audience to do the same. South Jersey Artist Collective | Dr. Daisy Century Performs as Harriet Tubman | Dr. Daisy Century considers Harriet Tubman her role model, someone who encouraged her to put others first and to lead by example. Like her inspiration, Daisy grew up on a farm, has a wonderful singing voice and is a determined woman of conviction: once they start a project, they must see it through to completion. Harriet Tubman reveals a woman who made up her mind as a young girl that things could be better than they were, “I had reasoned this out in my mind. There was one of two things I had a right to – liberty or death. If I could not have one, I would have the other.” Tubman shows us a woman who found freedom for herself and then made sure others were brought to freedom. South Jersey Antique, Arts, & Cultural Society | Ellen D. Alford Book Presentation, Reading, & Signing: Abolition & The Underground Railroad in South Jersey | Ellen D. Alford is a native South Jersey resident and local historian who researches and writes about the Underground Railroad, slavery, abolition and Harriet Tubman in South Jersey. She is a former newspaper correspondent, public school educator and college/university administrator. Alford has published articles in the Vineland Historical Magazine and the Bulletin of the Gloucester County Historical Society. In 2011, she presented a paper to the Mid-Atlantic Popular/American Culture Association's Twenty-Second Annual Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has won the Lloyd P. Burns Award for Public Service from the New Jersey PressAssociation; First Place News for Spot News from Sigma Delta Chi Association, Philadelphia chapter; First Place for Spot News from the New Jersey Press Association; and an honorable mention from the Philadelphia Press Association for Spot News. Rowan University Art Gallery & Museum | Prima Materia: Blanka Amezkua, Esperanza Cortés, and Anthony Carlos Molden, curated by Anabelle Rodríguez-González | Prima Materia brings together new and recent works by Blanka Amezkua, Esperanza Cortés, and Anthony Carlos Molden, three interdisciplinary artists working across a dynamic range of expressive forms, including but not limited to sculpture, painting, ceramics, musical and theatrical collaborations, performative actions, curatorial work, community interventions, site-specific installations, and public art commissions. All three artists are experienced makers actively creating provocative artworks that relate to materials and techniques associated with crafts such as embroidery, beadwork, decorative paper folding and cutting, and elements from the scenic arts. Their efforts consistently yield marvelous results, including novel sculptural objects, sumptuously detailed and evocative two-dimensional works, and challenging mixed-media installations that appeal to the senses through their impressive individual and collective visuality. New Jersey State Council on the Arts | Save the Date! | The Council will award New Jersey Heritage Fellowships to exemplary folk and traditional artists working to honor and preserve New Jersey’s diverse cultural heritage. These fellowships recognize artistic excellence, lifetime achievement, and contributions to our state’s traditional arts heritage. First Peoples Fund | Yéigo Action Grant | The Yéigo Action Grant provides support for the growing landscape of Native artists and culture bearers who need financial assistance with a professional development opportunity or towards a hardship that is hindering their creative practice. This program offers grants between $100 and $5,000 for individual Native artists and culture bearers. First Peoples Fund (FPF) finds it essential to support artists in their times of need, especially when their work is impacted by sudden hardship. This grant’s name incorporates the Diné word yéigo, often used as a phrase of encouragement that can mean “keep going” or “don’t give up.” While some requests related to a current artistic project may be eligible, please note that Yéigo Action Grants are not intended to assist with funding new artist projects or to provide general support for an existing project. | Deadline: 10th of every month | More information and application.
NewMusic | Reel Change Film Fund | In October 2020, New Music USA announced the launch of Reel Change: The Fund for Diversity in Film Scoring, powered by SESAC and composer Christophe Beck, sponsored by Amazon Studios, and administered by New Music USA. VIA Art Fund | Artistic Production Grants | Emphasizing direct engagement with contemporary visual art, VIA Art Fund supports projects that exemplify the core values of artistic production, thought leadership, and public engagement. The Fund’s Artistic Production Grants are awarded twice annually to artists, nonprofit organizations, cultural institutions, art production platforms, and biennials or festivals working in the field of contemporary art in the United States and internationally. Support is provided for new artistic commissions that take place outside museum or gallery walls, within the public realm or in non-traditional exhibition environments. If the project takes place in the United States, the featured artists may be U.S.-based or international.
