The Zebra Is Back — Reimagining Public Art and Community Connection in Atlantic City
Tina Notaro, South Jersey Cultural Alliance’s Atlantic City Connector, is committed to building creative bridges across the city — from hosting monthly artist meet-ups called “Make the Rent Monday” at Hayday Coffee to supporting Midtown CDC programs in Brown’s Park. This spring, Tina also began working with the Atlantic City Arts Foundation (ACAF), where she continues to foster collaboration and expand opportunities for local artists.
Her first ACAF blog post tells the story of the beloved “Z is for Zebra” mural by artist Stephanie Segal Miller. Originally painted in 2021, the mural was removed due to wall damage, but thanks to NJEDA funding and ACAF’s preservation efforts, it was recently restored — this time with the help of four paid local assisting artists. The project brought public art back to the neighborhood and demonstrated the power of creative investment in community spaces.
