CALL FOR GIS INTERN
TITLE OF THE POSITION: Cultural Census ArcGIS Intern
REPORTS TO: Julie Hain, Director of Membership and Programs
LOCATION: Remote, with occasional in person meeting, as needed
STIPEND: This internship offers a Stipend of $2400 to one (1) intern for a flexible schedule of a minimum 200 hours worked
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: June 1, 2023-December 31, 2023
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:
The mission of SJCA is to strengthen South Jersey’s cultural community by acting as a central hub of information, connection, and resources supporting the self-expressed needs of independent artists, cultural organizations, and other cultural stakeholders within Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean, and Salem counties. SJCA envisions a region where individuals of all ages and backgrounds are engaged and enriched through arts, history, and culture, of South Jersey and where communities prosper through a creative economy.

GENERAL INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
The SJCA Cultural Census ArcGIS Project Intern will help create and maintain an organized and robust GIS database of artists, cultural organizations, and cultural community assets. The intern will collect, data enter, and analyze GIS data, and update StoryMaps to create maps/graphics using ESRI ArcGIS Online. These maps and data will https://www.arcgis.com/ help create a central hub of information on sjca.net reflecting the broad spectrum of South Jersey’s cultural assets, connecting communities and their cultural assets, and highlighting artists and organizations of color throughout the eight southern New Jersey counties.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Collection and data entry of data from crowdsourcing, partners, SJCA membership, and other sources
- Community outreach to collect cultural asset data and images
- Analysis of collected cultural asset data
- Creation of Esri interactive ArcGIS StoryMap data and creation of ArcGIS StoryMaps presenting interactive cultural asset maps alongside supporting context and community experiences
- Preparing fact sheets and visually stimulating infographics for marketing, outreach, and education purposes
- Assisting with marketing and social media content development and website design for cultural asset map data
- Other related duties as requested
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience using ESRI products such as ArcGIS Online
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and manipulating data
- Ability to work independently as well as with other individuals at all levels across multiple functions
- Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple tasks, adhering to deadlines
- Experience with diverse communities (cultures and races)
- Ability to perform basic computer functions, including data entry and using standard software applications (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, etc.)
- Written and spoken proficiency in Spanish & English is a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Primarily remote office environment with occasional in-person meetings. Physical Office is located on the main campus of Stockton University in Galloway, NJ.
Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 5 - 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
