The Kids on the Block is a well-researched, comprehensive performance program designed to educate elementary school children about important and timely issues. After viewing the presentation of scripted dialog between these life sized puppet characters, children are given the opportunity to address their own specific questions. The puppets themselves take questions from the audience, fully engaging the children with their kid- friendly responses making a Kids on the Block presentation an unforgettable experience! The kids/puppets have distinctive personalities and portray, through carefully scripted material, a world of real life situations. As our puppets come to life, children identify with them and open up to them as if they were talking to trusted friends or classmates. It is through this interaction and open dialogue that the “Kids/puppets” help children to recognize and prevent problems before they happen and prepare children for the many challenges of growing up. Our performances are entertaining, informative lessons that guide and educate children in problem solving skills and how to become healthy, happy and aware of themselves, their peers and the world around them. The Kids on the Block New Jersey’s programs are recognized statewide for their success in teaching specific prevention, leadership and problem-solving skills while encouraging children to interact fully and positively in their schools and community. We empower children, teaching them the skills to stay safe and healthy.

Funding is available for selected districts. Contact us to see if your district is eligible for a funded performance.

The Kids on the Block Program teaches about inclusion, tolerance, and accepting differences as it relates to children and education. This is done through puppetry in a theatrical production. Scripted material, music, and an interactive question and answer section makes these performances memorable. Our performances are performed by professional puppeteers and educators who have been trained specifically in performing Kids on the Block. A special style of puppetry called Bunraku is used when presenting these performances. The various performance topics include; Bullying Prevention, Disability Awareness, Violence Prevention, Children’s Mental Health, Multiculturalism Awareness  and many others.

TESTIMONIALS

“I just wanted to say thank you to Ms. Pieroni and her program, “Kids on the Block.” I have had the pleasure of having the “Kids” at my schools for the better part of 15 years both at West Dover and South Toms River Elementary. The students have always been receptive to the “Kids.” They enjoy the puppets and the way difficult topics that are presented by them. The students feel comfortable around the puppets and are always inquisitive at their presentations.

We would love and appreciate having them back at any point.” ~Michael S. Pallen, Principal

“I would like to thank the “Kids” for visiting our school. Our school is comprised of children from a very diverse community. The “Kids” was a proactive performance to assist our students in understanding some of the most important social issues affecting their young lives. From HIB to respect and equality in a diverse school, the performance touched on many issues that help children to go about their day with tolerance, love, and respect. It was a very educational, yet fun experience for our students and staff. Thank you for a great performance.” ~Chris Raichle, Principal”

“I wanted to thank you for your wonderful assembly at Herbertsville Elementary School on 12/9/19 on Bullying to our second and third graders. The puppets were entertaining with various bullying scenarios for the children to watch and to participate. I loved how you included the bystander in helping children to understand the importance of seeking help when a friend is being bullied and seeking assistance from an adult. The children responded enthusiastically with their questions and responses. A worthwhile program which would be great in other schools. Thank you for a great and educational program!!” ~Susan Talty, Counselor
