Innovate Grants | Grants for Artists and Photographers | Innovate Grant supports artists and photographers through quarterly $1,800.00 grants. We believe that new ideas come from sparks of inspiration and aim to provide just that, access to mighty bursts of financial support so that you can focus on making your important and innovative work.

MacDowell Fellowship | About 300 artists in seven disciplines are awarded Fellowships each year and the sole criterion for acceptance is artistic excellence. There are no residency fees, and need-based stipends and travel reimbursement grants are available to open the residency to the broadest possible community of artists. MacDowell encourages applications from artists of all backgrounds and all countries in the following disciplines: architecture, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre, and visual arts. Any applicant whose proposed project does not fall clearly within one of these artistic disciplines should contact the admissions department for guidance. We aim to be inclusive, not exclusive in our admissions process.

Eligible artists must be South Jersey residents who are 18+ years or older and live in the eight-county South Jersey region comprised of Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean, Salem Counties.

The grant will be administered and distributed by South Jersey Cultural Alliance, in collaboration with local cultural professionals, leaders, and creatives; some who serve on committees and Board, and some external partners and experts from the field.

SJCA prioritizes grant awards for individuals from historically excluded and oppressed communities, specifically those who self-identify as Black, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, Indigenous, or a Person of Color, LGBTQ+, or a Person with a Disability.

A diverse range of disciplines are eligible. Applicants that have not received the grant from us last year are prioritized over applications of previous awardees. Eligibility requirements include but are not limited to; working artists or cultural professionals who have a marketable presence as an artist or culture professional.

Fall Grants Open September 1st | NJCH’s fall grant applications open on September 1! NJCH project grants support both planning (Incubation Grant) and implementation (Action Grant) of public humanities projects in New Jersey. Full guidelines are now available, and an informational webinar (ideal for new applicants) will be held on September 7.

Letter of Intent Deadline due September 30, 2023

The Collaborative Research program aims to advance humanistic knowledge by supporting teams of scholars working on a joint endeavor. NEH encourages projects that incorporate multiple points of view, pursue new avenues of inquiry in the humanities, and lead to manuscripts for print publication or to scholarly digital projects.

Collaborators may come from one or more institutions. They may propose research in a single field of study or interdisciplinary work. NEH encourages partnerships with researchers from the natural and social sciences, but projects must focus on humanistic content and employ humanistic methods. International collaboration is welcome, but scholars at U.S. institutions must contribute significantly to the project.

Proposed projects must aim to result in tangible and sustainable outcomes, such as a co-authored or multi-authored book; a themed issue of a peer-reviewed journal; a series of peer-reviewed articles; a born-digital publication; or an open-access website or other digital resource. All project outcomes must incorporate collaboration and interpretation to address significant humanities research questions.

The program includes four project categories: Planning International Collaboration, Convening, Manuscript Preparation, and Scholarly Digital Projects. The categories support different project types or stages and have different performance periods and award ceilings. Applicants must specify only one project category for support.

Digitizing Hidden Special Collections and Archives: Amplifying Unheard Voices is a grant competition administered by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) for digitizing rare and unique content stewarded by collecting organizations in the US and Canada.

Launched in 2021, the program is designed to support efforts to digitize materials that deepen public understanding of the histories of people of color and other communities and populations whose work, experiences, and perspectives have been insufficiently recognized or unattended. Initial Applications for the second round of funding are due by November 1, 2023. See details at Apply for an Award.

These often “hidden” histories include, but are not limited to, those of Black, Indigenous, Latine, and other People of Color; Women; Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Non-binary, and other Genderqueer people and communities; Immigrants; Displaced populations; Blind, Deaf, and Disabled people and communities; and Colonized, Disenfranchised, Enslaved, and Incarcerated people.

The Shubert Foundation is the nation’s largest funder dedicated to unrestricted funding of not-for-profit theatres and dance companies.

The Foundation's Board of Directors believes that the most effective way to encourage the artistic process is by providing the general operating support that reinforces the structure that nurtures its development. Accordingly, the Foundation does not earmark its awards; all allocations are unrestricted.

Although our primary emphasis is on theatre, with a secondary focus on dance, we do also offer some awards to arts-related organizations and MFA programs that help support their growth and advancement.

We are dedicated to thoroughly assessing our non-profit partner programs so that those who are passionate about supporting music education don’t have to.

Through a disciplined bi-annual application process, the D’Addario Foundation awards grants to upwards of 200 non-profit music education organizations each year.
