Cultural Education at the House of Blues
Dedicated to bringing the arts to schools through programs about African American contributions to American culture. The Blues Schoolhouse program introduces students to the music and art of the blues, offering a guided folk art tour and interactive multimedia experience that includes a live music presentation tracing the history of blues music from its roots in African culture through its emergence and evolution as a unique American music form and its influence on other contempoarty music forms. Grades 5-12. One chaperone per 10 students. As a prerequisite to the program, at least one teacher from the participating school must attend "Learning About American Culture through Blues Music and Folk Art" workshop before reserving. The workshop supports teachers in using the Blues SchoolHouse Classroom Guide to prepare their students for the Blues SchoolHouse program and to integrate the arts into their classroom curriculum. Other core International House of Blues Foundation programs include Visiting Artist programs, Blues Ambassador Scholarships and Teacher Workshops. Teacher Prep Materials are available and programming is core-curriculum-based.
