Cape May Stage is a professional Equity theatre company, featuring traditional, contemporary and new works in an intimate setting. Leading artists from around the country provide world-class theatre and a variety of educational and cultural outreach programs to residents and visitors of Cape May from May thru December. Founded in 1987, Cape May Stage allows audiences to feel truly a part of the theatrical experience. Located in the heart of the downtown Historic District of Cape May, NJ, Cape May Stage continues to deliver theatre that places emphasis on acting, directing and playwriting excellence in an intimate 110-seat Renaissance Revival (c. 1880) theatre - the Robert Shackleton Playhouse of the Cape May Stage.
Subscription series and dinner/theater packages are available. Show Times and Ticket Information: Performances generally run Wednesdays thru Sundays at 8pm from May through December. Tickets are $35 adults, $25 seniors (age 62+) and $12.50 students.
Cultural Education at Cape May Stage
Theatre performances at organization, Pre and Post Performance Workshops, Educational Outreach Programs, Artist-In-School Residencies, Internships and Classes. Grades 4-12 Cape May Stage's mission is to create an aesthetic experience for the students using theatre as a tool to create greater depth in the learning process. CMS's Educational Outreach Program believes the transformative power of live theatre awakens in students the silent creative potential waiting to erupt. Cape May Stage works with the classroom teacher to create a program tailored to his/her classroom and curriculum needs. CMS's classics-based original works provide parallel curriculum (study guides, artist talk-backs, pre-performance discussions, and follow-up) to the local schools, as well as subsidized matinees. CMS artists regularly serve as mentors and guest artists at the local, middle and high schools. * Creative Dramatics for Young Learners * Pre and Post Student Matinee Show Workshops * Day and Week long Residencies for Elementary, Middle, and High School students * From Page to Stage, Director's Choice, The Playwright's Code * Internships for Middle and High School Students * The Acting Series: Saturday masterclasses starting in March for youth and adults covering Audition Techniques, Shakespeare, Musical Theatre, Playwriting and many more). Teacher Prep Materials are available and programming is core-curriculum-based.
The "Summer on Stage: YouthStyle" is a chance for youths ages 10-15 with interest in the arts to adapt, design, and perform a Shakespearean play from their point of view. The youth get to work with professional teaching artists from across the country over the course of two weeks will take classes focusing on the language of Shakespeare and Shakespeare performance, Acting covering classical to contemporary styles, and Scenic Design and construction. These classes influence the student adaptation and design of a selected Shakespearean play.
Group Visits to Cape May Stage
Groups of 20 or more will receive a special rate of $20/person (That's a 42% savings off the regular ticketed price!) Seasons are scheduled from May through December with performances running Wednesdays through Sundays at 8pm. Special scheduling is available for Monday and Tuesday bookings as well as requested matinee performances.
