Sailing, Learning and Toe-Tapping Along the Bay

Enjoy your morning visit to the Salem County Historical Society, housed in four interconnected historic houses including Alexander Grant's Mansion House.   View the interpretive exhibits and take guided tours of historic buildings, period furnishings, decorative arts, textiles, and wistarburg glass.  In the afternoon set sail, handle the lines, and furl the sails aboard the restored 1920’s Delaware Bay oyster schooner, the A. J. Meerwald, operated by the Bayshore Discovery Project.  After you are back on land, enjoy an indoor or outdoor concert at the Appel Farm Arts and Music Center.

Next day walk through the Glasstown Arts District to browse the specialty shops and tour the art galleries.  Make sure you visit the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts to see works by regional fine and craft artistsIt’s a short drive to Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center where you’ll be able to watch artists demonstrate glassmaking techniques.  Feel the heat of the furnace as you make your own vase, bowl, or paperweight.  After your creative side has been fulfilled, visit the Seabrook Educational and Cultural Center to learn about the rich history and cultural community of Seabrook.  An evening concert performed by the Bay Atlantic Symphony will provide the perfect ending to your busy day.

The history of another regional community is preserved in the Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage housed in the Woodbine Brotherhood Synagogue.  Woodbine was an experimental agricultural-industrial colony to which many Russian Jews immigrated during the 1890s.  The African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey, home to over 3,000 historical and cultural artifacts, celebrates the African-American contributions to the region.   Let the Mainstage Center for the Arts offer this evening’s entertainment - it might be a choral, theatrical, or a concert performance.
